VYPE interviewed Anadarko’s James Coombes to learn more about who he is.
VYPE: What are your personal goals for the year?
Right now my goals are to take it one day at a time. Going out of state for college and being overwhelmed I’m going to need to just take it one day at a time and not get myself caught up. VYPE: What is the most fun you have had in the last year? The first time our team went and ate at a Chinese buffet this year after a tournament. It was funny and will be a treasured memory.
VYPE: Who is your favorite teacher from any grade, and why?
I wouldn’t say I’ve had a favorite teacher. Some gave me more opportunities than others which separates themselves from the others but I love my teachers equally.
VYPE: What is your favorite athletic memory?
When I almost upset the 4 seed at state in the first round. He didn’t quite play fair but that’s what happens when you play sports. It was a good memory to have.
VYPE: What teammate has left the biggest impression on you and why?
Probably one of the girls, Daelena. She brings everything to the court. Even if she is hurt she still wants to play. That just comes with some passion and maybe someday I’ll be on that same level of passion.
VYPE: What is your favorite part of being on this team?
How we all connected as a family. There was no drama or fighting whatsoever. Everyone laughed at each other and just had a good time.
VYPE: You can pick any place for a summer vacation. Where do you go, and who do you take with you?
I would love to go to Alaska. It’s just so beautiful even tho it is cold. No to even mention you can see the northern lights. I would take my mom and Daelena. They deserve it the most.
VYPE: If we gave you $500 and you had to spend it in the next 24 hours, what would you spend it on?
I would spend it on one last get together with the team before I leave for college. So we can laugh at each other and cry in the end haha.
VYPE: Do you participate in any community service projects?
Yes, I’ve done several over this year. I’ve prepared bags for a 5k, gotten toys and other things for kids over the U.S. for christmas, and I’ve donated blood twice this year.
VYPE: What Clubs or Campus groups are you involved with and why?
I’m a part of a magic club that me and a friend made this year, I was in art club for a couple years, and I was in drama club last year.
VYPE: Are you involved in academic excellence activities such as the National Honor Society, Student Council, or other academic clubs?
I’m the secretary of our student council, I’m also in National Honor Society, and I’m the president of out biomed class at votec.
