Anadarko may not be the biggest town in size but their support of student athletes is huge. Anadarko High School senior, Alexander Pebeahsy, is in track and field, runs cross country and plays basketball.
He experienced his communities support firsthand while celebrating athletic accomplishments. Alexander placed 3rd in the two-mile run and 4th in the mile run at the OSSAA State Track and Field Championships. “I was happy with the result because of how much work I put in,” he says.
Win or lose, Alexander remembers advise from his pastor. “He told me that not everything is going to be a part of your plan but all you can do is adjust and keep on moving.”
Alexander starting running cross country because of his dad who was a competitive athlete himself in high school and college. “My dad wanted my to try it. He was really good at cross country and I wanted to be better than him and be faster than him,” he said.
Basketball is a sport Alexander just really enjoys playing. He has been playing basketball since he could walk. One thing he has learned from athletics is that, “whatever you are doing, do it to your best to be the best version of you,” he says..
Alexander is inspired by many previous cross country runners at Anadarko. Following their example he learned to push himself and become a better runner. A teammate from his sophomore year particularly stands out as someone he looked up to. “Xavier taught me a lot and he pushed me to become the person and runner I am today.”
On the basketball court his older cousins, Maleek and Andre are his inspiration. “They were really good and I wanted to be as good as them,” he says.
Many people from family to teachers, have supported Alexander. He would like to shoutout to his sisters Ava, Amanda, Andrea, his mom and girlfriend. “They have all been really good at supporting me throughout my journey.” He is also thankful to his favorite teacher, Mr. Racadio. “He has a funny and kind personality and is just a really good teacher.”
Alexander is also in the Native American Club and Art Club.
