Anadarko’s Leyla Saldana Presented by Bank of Commerce

VYPE: What has your sport taught you that you use in your daily life?

Leyla: Cross country has taught me to always have a positive mindset no matter what. This helps me throughout the day on coming across every situation with a great attitude.

VYPE: When and how did you first get into playing your sport?

Leyla: I first got to playing basketball with the help of my older brother. He would take me with him to shoot and I grew attached to the sport. I got to running cross country and track with the help of my sister. We tried running together and we both grew a love for it.

VYPE: What teammate has left the biggest impression on you?

Leyla: The teammate that has left the biggest impression on me would have to be my sister Elizabeth. She led me through my school and athletic years through her experiences.

VYPE: What is your favorite part about representing your high school as an athlete?

Leyla: My favorite part of representing my school as an athlete would be how our school can be known for something great. People often bring down my school but it isn’t that at all. Through my sport I can represent my school through and show that great students can come from this school.

VYPE: What is the best advice that anyone has given you?

Leyla: The best advice someone has given me is to try and do my best no matter what and to not put stress on myself. Instead of stressing about being the best I should be focused on accomplishing what I can do.

VYPE: Which professional athlete do you look up to?

Leyla: My favorite athlete is Kobe Bryant because of his mindset and how he was passionate about his sport.

VYPE: Who is your favorite teacher from any grade?

Leyla: My favorite teacher would be Mrs. Mollenkopf from eleventh grade English because she was kind hearted and one of the most caring people I’ve met.

VYPE: What is your all-time favorite meal?

Leyla: My all time favorite meal is arroz con gandules.

VYPE: You can pick any place for a summer vacation, where do you go and who do

you take with you?

Leyla: If I were to choose a vacation spot, I would go to Italy with my sister Elizabeth. I chose this because of the food and the scenery there.
