Carsyn Kaulaity, an Anadarko High School junior, serves as secretary for the Native American Indian Club and leads an outstanding athletic career for the Warriors’ varsity tennis team.
“Being involved in Indian club makes me proud because of my late father who was also in Indian Club,” Kaulaity said.
Her father, Ronnie, died in 2018. Carsyn is a proud citizen of the Kiowa Nation and the Choctaw Nation and has been involved with Native American Indian Club for 3 years.
“Something special I remember about my dad is that he was really funny and told me, ‘if you’re not first, you’re last.’ I know he was joking, but I like to think about it a lot while applying it to my game on the courts.”
Kaulaity started playing at a young age but her love for tennis grew tremendously in the seventh grade. She has played doubles her whole career.
“I love being competitive and being surrounded by great people in a positive environment. I also love being able to play with my best friend, Mae, on the court,” Kaulaity said. “Me and Mae grew up in the same neighborhood and have known each other since we were about 5.”
Kaulaity is playing varsity No. 1 doubles with Maelena Lorentz this year. Being lifelong best friends, sometimes, it feels like they can reach others’ minds both on and off the court.
“When we come up with a new tactics on how to get more points, we usually have the same idea and can execute it well,” Kaulaity said.
This year, Kaulaity wants to qualify for — and win — a state championship with Lorentz and “to grow as a player and a person.”
After high school, Kaulaity plans to further her education and enter the medical field.
