La’Zane Owens has been making waves in Anadarko football since his introduction to the sport at just four years old. “My older brother introduced me to football when I was four years old, and I’ve loved it ever since,” he shared. Now, at 14, the freshman player has already made a name for himself on the varsity team with his grit and determination.
Despite being new to high school football, La’Zane is already making significant contributions. “I’m a freshman, so I’m on special teams, and I’m the backup quarterback. I started at outside linebacker/safety on defense,” he said. Balancing multiple positions on the field, he remains focused on growth and learning, attributing much of his progress to his stepdad. “He’s always kept me prepared for what I might face on the field. He was my football coach when I was younger and showed me a lot about playing quarterback.”
La’Zane’s early success hasn’t come without challenges. Playing on varsity as a freshman meant facing the speed and intensity of high school football head-on. “Playing up as a freshman, seeing how fast high school football is, it’s a huge adjustment,” he admitted. However, he remains confident. “I know I have to get stronger. I was tested in the passing game against a good Lone Grove team, but once I calmed down, I was good in coverage.”
A key moment in La’Zane’s young career came when his team was down by 20 points in the fourth quarter against Lone Grove. “We noticed people leaving. It brought out the best in us,” he said. The team rallied to win by two points, a defining moment in his freshman season.
Looking ahead, La’Zane is determined to make his mark. “I want to contribute to our wins and not just wait until my sophomore year. I want to be a factor in how we win.” With a clear vision for his future, he hopes to earn a football scholarship and pursue a degree in the medical field.
Supported by his family and inspired by leaders like teammate Jakobi Tallent, La’Zane Owens is on a trajectory that promises both personal and team success at Anadarko.
