Anadarko High School junior Kolaiah Kaulaity is making his mark as a multi-sport athlete, driven by steady improvement and a strong connection to his roots.
Kaulaity, who competes in cross country, track and baseball and previously wrestled, said his proudest accomplishment is simple but meaningful: “Hitting a new PR every meet.” That consistent progress reflects both his work ethic and his mindset as a competitor.
For Kaulaity, sports are about more than physical performance. “It helps me overcome my mental battles,” he said, noting that distance running in particular has strengthened his focus and resilience. Those lessons have translated beyond competition, shaping how he approaches challenges in everyday life.
He credits much of his growth to the people around him. Teammate Alejandro Zamacona, he said, “helped me push through my races and helped me be one of the best runners on the cross country team.” The support system extends to his family as well. “My parents, they supported me through the whole way no matter the decisions I made,” Kaulaity said.
In the classroom, Kaulaity points to Ms. Aykeemah, his Kiowa language teacher during his freshman and sophomore years, as a lasting influence. Her class helped him stay connected to his heritage, something he values deeply.
That cultural connection is also what Kaulaity appreciates most about his hometown of Anadarko. “How much my culture is a part of our town,” he said, highlighting the pride he feels in being part of a community that celebrates its traditions.
Outside of athletics, Kaulaity stays involved through Indian Club, continuing to engage with his culture and peers off the field.
Guided by advice he carries with him daily, “If you do the right thing, you won’t have anything to worry about” Kaulaity continues to push himself as both an athlete and a person. With another year of high school ahead, he remains focused on improvement, competition and representing Anadarko with pride.
