Anadarko Warriors 2023 Football Team Preview – Presented by Samantha Wallis – Shelter Insurance

ANADARKO WARRIORS

Coach: KENT JACKSON

4-7

OFFENSE

For coach Kent Jackson and the Warriors offense, the tone is set by the offensive line. This season the Warriors have a solid group of players up front with the ability to move people and protect the quarterback. “We will run a pro-style offense. We like to get the offensive line involved early and set the pace of the game by running the football, then let the passing game develop as the game goes on,” said coach Jackson. Ladrae Burrus (Sr.) will start at one of the tackle spots with Eli Foreman (Sr.) at guard and Davin Nuckols (Sr.) at center. The three upperclassmen will be key to the overall success of the offense. Jakobi Tallent (Jr.) will shoulder the load at running back with Weston Burcum (So.) playing quarterback. Burcum is described as one of the hardest working players on the team. His leadership and willingness to do whatever it takes to win makes him an easy player to follow on the field and in the locker room. Thomas Ware (Sr.) is likely the main target in the passing game this season. With seven returning starters on offense, Anadarko is poised for a solid season in a tough district.

DEFENSE

Multiple players will go both ways for the Warriors including Burrus who will play defensive tackle and Foreman who is expected to play linebacker. Burrus dedicated himself to the weight room this offseason and his hard work will show when the lights come on. Tallent and Ware are likely secondary types playing one of the safety positions with Alex Whiteshield (Sr.) and Napoleon Camp (So.) at corner. Camp started as a freshman and has continued to develop playing opposite Whiteshield. Whiteshield and Camp will see time at wide receiver on offense. The Warriors are a 4-4 scheme team but can add secondary players to the scheme when necessary. With only four starters returning on defense, coach Jackson is looking for younger players to step into roles at linebacker so this defense can get back to being a dominant force in Class 3A-1.
